Christmas Time is Here!
Here at the studio, we're counting down the shopping days left until Christmas (only a few more left)! We've been super busy with the Dallas Flea, IndieGenius, and trunk shows - all promoting our spring line - and we can't wait for a little break to celebrate the holidays with our families.
This is one of our favorite times of the year because we absolutely love the joy of giving presents to those we love. There's nothing quite like seeing the excitement on someone's face. The hot chocolate and food isn't too bad, either :)
Though we'll be closed December 22 - January 1, we already can't wait to get back to the studio to our designs and letterpress (though it can be temperamental some days, we love that thing!) so we can get some more stuff out for you all to see!
We wish you a very merry Christmas and the happiest new year!

Kate Reed Designs on Good Morning Texas!
Last Friday morning Kate Reed Designs was featured in the display for the Dallas Flea on Good Morning Texas! Check out the video below and look for some of our Christmas designs (Red Chloe and Merry Merry) right in the middle of the table!
The Dallas Flea was a huge success and we had an amazing response to our new Spring line. If you couldn't make it out to the Flea this time, keep your ears open for announcements about the Spring!
Shout out to Brittany Edwards for choosing our cards to display!

Trunk Show!
After a great Saturday at the Dallas Flea, we're packing up again for a trunk show at April Lane! We'll be there this Wednesday (Dec 8) from 10-5 with our new spring line and our favorite holiday cards.
We already have them all bowed up and ready to be opened as Christmas gifts! Or grab a couple that you love for yourself (who says you have to forget about yourself this time of year? We say you work hard for everyone else - you should treat yourself too!).
We'll be there and can't wait to see everyone there!

Save the Date
You're invited!
This Saturday we'll be hanging out at our booth in Dallas for the 1st Anniversary of the Dallas Flea. Not only will we be showing (and selling!) some Christmas cards, we're also debuting our spring collection! We're so excited!
The cool thing about the Dallas Flea is that four times a year, 70-plus Texas vendors come together under one roof. There's going to be live music, gift giveaways, and free swag bags for the first 100 people who walk through the door! It's only five bucks to get in (kids under 12 get in free) and parking is free! So make it a girls day with your girlfriends, take your boyfriend along, or bring your mom - the more the merrier!
Mention this blog post and you'll get 10% off your order! We can't wait to see you there!

Whistle While You Work
As you can see from past posts, we're so excited about our booth at Indie Genius and working the Dallas Flea Market! We've been in the studio working hard designing, letterpressing, and packaging our spring line.
We're starting to get the hang of our vintage letterpress - though some days it has a mind of its own. We'll start posting sneak peaks of our spring line later this week. Stay tuned!

Bright and Cheery
Simple. Cute. Elegant and darling.
We absolutely love these bright cards printed for a baby gift. They are fun, and the perfect size
{4.75 x 3.5} for a busy new-mommy to write thank you notes for dinners, gifts and much more. The raspberry envelopes compliment the color nicely.

IndieGenius
While thinking about new and different marketing ideas, we came upon the IndieGenius micro boutique marketplace that will be opening in Dallas, more specifically Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff, next month. We were intrigued, interested and impressed with what we saw.
Basically, a micro boutique is an open space where multiple independent business owners who have dreamed about opening their own boutique, but always have something standing in their way, have the chance (at a lower cost) to open a small boutique. With IndieGenius, businesses rent out a space alongside other businesses with room to decorate, display and sell merchandise. This gives the opportunity to have the traffic, space, and advertising that a full size boutique does but for a fraction of the cost!
The space will look a little something like this (give and take a little to concentrate on displaying our stationery)
5X10 Sample Boutique Space |
What do you think? Getting involved would have benefits such as: an independent selling platform, creative independence on how to decorate/set up our space, open six days a week, impulse buyers from other sellers, independent business workshops to help us grow, and a place where we could send our Dallas-based customers.
Would this be a good idea? Should we be a part of it? Let us know!

Vintage Western Inspired Invitation
My best friend from childhood is pregnant with her first baby. I am overwhelmed with excitement to be an {adopted} aunt for their new baby. Sara and her husband Luke are decorating the room in a vintage western theme.
Kate Reed Designs created this precious shower invitation for them. We can't wait to meet Case in late January. Hooray!
Here are some pics of the invite.
Cheers!

Natalie's sip and see
Yesterday we hosted a sip and see for a dear friend of mine Natalie and her son William. Natalie is one of the amazing forces behind Three Bishops jewelry, so this party needed to knock it out of the ballpark. Kate Reed Designs {happily!} created the invitation. It was a two-color letterpressed invitation printed on lettra stock, gorgeous!
The creative juices began to flow! The hostesses took flight with the birds {no pun intended..ha ha} and began to soar.

Beautiful flowers |
The long branches were picked from a friends yard! |
Light blue Hydrangeas and chocolate ribbon |
Natural and easy |
A small addition by the sign-in book |
pictures of William |
Fruit always makes a colorful display |
There was a coffee bar complete with flavorings and sugars.
Guests "tweeted" something sweet for Natalie to take home as a keepsake.
At the end of this celebration of Sweet William and Natalie, party favors of coffee were given to guests. Brilliant!
Wreath made by Shelley {more from her soon to come!} |
Hazelnut flavored coffee for guests to take home |
It all starts with a simple invitation, but can evolve into so much more.
Happy Friday everyone!
Cheers!

The Hottest Color for Years to Come
Pantone may have officially named turquoise the "it" color for 2010, but we're loving it for years to come!
According to Suite101.com, Pantone specializes in tracking the most popular colors from home decor to fashion. It was a no-brainer that turquoise be the color to provide the perfect soothing tones to make people feel relaxed and calm - like you're on vacation!
Turquoise is a special color because it incorporates both blue and green color characteristics. Blue is known for being calming, relaxing and inviting. Green is known for being very fresh, luminous and rejuvenating. It only makes sense that their baby - turquoise - would inherit the best traits of both and provide us with a color that pops not only on paper, but in all aspects of fashion and in the home as well!
On paper, turquoise can be used to liven up a space that feels boring or too formal. It adds a great pop of color to provide excitement to the space. It works great with a wide rand of colors such as black, white, grays, and browns. This is great because it means turquoise can be easily incorporated in almost any color scheme.
For a winter fashion look, pair turquoise with more solid, darker colors such as navy and shades of charcoals and grays. The darker tones will weigh down the outfit while the turquoise adds the bright pop.
It's easy to see why Pantone named turquoise as the "it" color for 2010. But we say that turquoise will remain one of the hottest colors well beyond this year.

What to do in Fort Worth: September
The end of September is a weird time. It's not October when most of the major fall events start; and it's not summer anymore when you can spend the afternoons/evenings by the pool. But just because the summer is over and fall hasn't quite kicked in yet- doesn't mean there aren't things do around Fort Worth this month!
Go see the Maya and Mythic Sea exhibition at the Kimbell Art Museum. It's the special event running from August 29, 2010 to January 2, 2011, featuring stone monuments and hieroglyphs, exquisite painted pottery vessels, and a lavish assortment of precious goods crafted from jade, gold, and turquoise. Also at the Kimbell Art Museum, starting tomorrow, Michelangelo's First Painting: The Torment of Saint Anthony will become a permanent resident.
Right next door at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents "Vernon Fisher: K-Mart Conceptualism." This is a survey of the artist's entire career to date, incorporating paintings, sculptures, and installations from the late 1970s to the present, from both public and private collections in the United States and Europe. This runs from September 25, 2010 to January 2, 2010
Looking for something to do downtown? Every Wednesday through December 29th head to Scat Lounge to hear Adonis Rose perform.
For one special night, the Concert on the Square presented by KXT 91.7 will be at the 8.0 Restaurant and Bar on Sundance Square September 23rd. It will feature an exciting slate of national acts as well as up-and-coming local and regional artists. Tickets are $8 for KERA/KXT 91.7 members, $10 for non-members and can be purchased online at www.kxt.org.
Be sure to make time for one of Fort Worth's longest running shows: Four Day Weekend Improve Comedy until December 11th.
Running from September 17th until October 30th is the annual Hangman's House of Horrors. It is featured annually on the Travel Channel’s “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions.” In its 22nd season, Hangman’s proudly donates all net proceeds to local charities.
During the weekend of September 30th to October 2nd, Christmas in Cowtown Holiday Gift Market, put on by the Junior League of Fort Worth. Christmas in Cowtown Holiday Gift Market is a juried show of over 130 exhibitors where merchants from across the country represent a wide range of product categories from home décor to jewelry. Admission is $10. A three day shopping pass can be purchased for $15 and there is no charge for children under 5.
For more September information and events, see City of Fort Worth calendar of events. Plan some time out with the family before it gets too cold!
